Headlights and Crest Toothpaste

Well, I had heard toothpaste can help clear up a foggy headlight.  You know the sun-faded deal that makes your car look 10 years older than it really is!  Amazingly enough, it works!  I took my nieces car and tried it out - here are the before and after pics;

Quite a difference!!  Not perfect by any stretch, but quite an improvement overall.  I've also done the technique with buffing compound and Novus polish etc. and that is better still than this.  However for 10 minutes work with Crest toothpaste and some wet papertowels - this is worth doing!

Foosball - Tornado Twister

I love Craigslist!  Just picked up a used Tornado Twister foosball table for...  $60!!!!

These shots are "as it was" when I got it home. I have since cleaned it up some and gone over it a bit. 

Assessment: 

• Cabinet is in all around good shape, wood-grain looks great (not a fan of the cheap laminate so I may paint that later etc.).  Only issue is the top-side laminate is coming up in a few places so needs to be tacked back down.

• Foosball men are all there and in good shape.  Little dirty so will get them all cleaned up.  Not counter-balanced so may replace them at some point.
  
• Playfield is in good shape everywhere except for the goals.  There are cracks on the left and right edges of goals and there is some lifting along them on one side
• Yellow Goal - right and left

• Black Goal - right and left (left being worst of it all)

• Bars have some rust on them and need good cleaning.  All seem to spin fine and don't appear to have any bending to them.  Two handles are missing and another is almost like a broomstick?!  Plan to replace them ALL.
• Goals seem good, no "blow outs" around them - however the cabinet has ZERO ball returns.  Goal just drops straight to the floor?!  There are also NO holes on any of the sides or ends for a return - this has me really confused, yet happy as I can make my own central return!
• 

Next Steps:

1. Order new balls, pins, handles and wire drink holders.
2. Remove all the bars. 
1. Cleanup the bars with aluminum foil and water trick
2. Remove and cleanup the men (ultrasonic cleaner perhaps).
3. Cleanup the bearings (again ultrasonic perhaps)
4. Cleanup rubber bumpers (these seem to be in good shape)
5. Replace the bars, pinning men with new pins and installing new handles.
3. Cut opening in side with either jig-saw, or more likely use my router with a "guide" mounted behind the opening for ball return landing.
4. Invent/build some sort of sloping ball return to get them to land in the ball return.
5. Mount drink holders to end (CRITICAL STEP NOT TO BE OVERLOOKED!).

All done!!  Well other than the drink holders, but haven't found any I really like so I may just build something.  New handles work GREAT and have a great feel to them.  Even my homemade ball return is working very nicely.  Kids had some friends over and we did a full, double elimination tournament and had a great time.

Pallet Cooler

Having snagged a few pallets from work, I decided I better do something with them before the spousal unit has a fit.  Digging around the interwebs, I ran across a stand up cooler made from them!  Perfect!  After watching a few youtube video's of others builds, I took from most of them, added my own twist and ended up with this;

It was really a fun build! I've shown it to a few people and have now committed to building 2 more of them myself, and assisting on another 2.  Some of the features;

• Bottle opener mounted to the side... for Corona's and other non-twisty top bee.. sodas!
• Plumbed in a valve that has a garden hose sized connection on the side.  This allows me to connect a piece of garden hose and drain the cooler off the deck without a wet mess everywhere!
• All but 2 support pieces of wood (for the under side of the cooler) came from pallets at no cost and would have gone to the dump otherwise.
• Cheap!  Well - ish...  I figure about $60 in parts with the cooler, plumbing fixtures, hinges, handles, opener et al.

All in all, was really worth the hastle to do - I bet I have 12 hours plus into the build, but subsequent builds will go much faster. Tearing down the pallets is a LARGE chunk of the build time.

The next build I call "version 2.0" has a few minor updates - wider side shelves to hold drinks easier as you put-them-in or take-them-out. Plus that allows me to also attach handles made from the "tops" of the legs as well for easier moving.
